FOTR Friends of Te Tātua a Riukiuta (Big King)

Haere mai, welcome to the community trapping network of FOTR - Friends of Te Tātua a Riukiuta. FOTR and Urban Ark are working together to build and support a 'halo' of backyard trappers surrounding Te Tātua a Riukiuta/Big King.

Te Tātua a Riukiuta erupted some 28,500 years ago and was once one of three beautiful maunga, but is now the only remaining volcanic cone of the 'three kings' group because of quarrying in the last century.

FOTR are on a mission to restore the mauri of this taonga by removing pest species on and around Te Tātua to encourage more native birds and other wildlife. The halo will also help to protect a 'Significant Ecological Area' on the north east flank of the maunga.

We need your help to protect Te Tātua a Riukiuta and welcome you to join us by collecting a rat trap supplied by Urban Ark in a child and pet-safe box for your backyard. Residents in the halo network can also borrow a backyard possum trap and help themselves to invasive weed guides we have available.

Join the community who love the maunga as much as you. Find Friends of Te Tātua a Riukiuta on Facebook here.

Anyone in the halo below can grab a rat trap on us. Get in touch today !
