Orari river - Vance Road

The ORPG (Inc) was formed in 2003 in response to the threat of a dam proposed in the beautiful Orari Gorge. The group has continued as the "voice" for the Orari River. Whilst the group still advocates for the river on a number of committees, we also carry out trapping projects along the river. These are targeted to reduce the effects of mammalian predators such as possums, stoats and rats, on two highly endangered species of seabirds, the Black Fronted Tern and Black Billed Gull, that are a unique feature of NZs braided rivers.
